Position Summary/Overview: The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: Professionally delivering and facilitating Benefits & Leave orientation for VCU’s new hires 2 to 3 times per month, Coordinating and facilitating faculty orientations and other special overview sessions multiple times throughout the year in partnership with other university offices, Executing benefits enrollment for VCU’s new hires in areas such as health care, retirement, leave of absence programs, etc.
, Maintaining compliance for all required personnel records for VCU’s new hires, including but not limited to: benefits, leave, policy review, required training documents, etc.
, Performing quality control checks for benefits and leave related data and analyzing cyclical trends, Directing employees to benefits and leave resources such as plan provisions and programs, eligibility requirements, benefits enrollments, mid-year qualifying events, job status changes, service date and leave adjustments, etc.
, Developing subject matter expertise in the areas of benefits and leave administration to ensure continuous process improvement of programs, standard operating procedures, and benefits/leave resources, Resolving employee issues with benefits and leave related matters independently and in collaboration with other team members, Providing back up and additional coverage for benefits and leave administration, All other duties and projects as assigned.
To successfully perform these job duties, the Benefits & Leave Associate will engage and interact professionally with employees of all classifications across campus.
The Associate will ensure all programs and processes are executed timely and follow required record keeping practices for compliance.
Additionally, the Associate will take the lead on providing exceptional service by answering employee, manager, and human resources staff questions via email, phone, and during orientation, escalating questions and concerns when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications : Experience with healthcare open enrollment and benefits changes such as mid-year qualifying events, retirement, COBRA, etc.
Knowledge of regulations related to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), disability programs (short and long term), and state benefits/leave policies and regulations Bachelor's degree in HR or related field, or several years of experience in employee benefits and leave administration and/or training/certification education Ability to read and apply policies and guidelines A consistently positive and respectful attitude while working proactively and independently as an individual and as a member of a team Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, computer systems, i.

, Microsoft Office Suite, Banner, RealTime, Cardinal, DocuSign Strong customer service skills and the ability to professionally communicate (written and verbal) at all levels of organization, both internally and externally Ability to anticipate issues and concerns in order to resolve them, or escalate when appropriate after independent research of the issue Ability to prioritize and organize job duties, projects, and special assignments, Strong attention to detail and ability to catch errors and take action to complete tasks accurately and by established deadlines with a focus on compliance Ability to work with highly confidential information Ability to take initiative, and make fair and consistent decisions that align with VCU’s policies and procedures Ability to multitask and be a flexible, kind, team player who can easily adapt to change Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and/or leave programs and policies preferred 3+ years of benefits and/or leave administration experience This position requires work to be done on-campus for the majority of the work week.
Remote working options are available on a limited basis (one to two days per week maximum) after a probationary period; a good attendance record is essential.
