Job Duties
The position requires extensive knowledge of the state and federal criminal justice systems and state government, and offers a unique and challenging experience for a highly motivated attorney: the opportunity to handle their own caseload in which the incumbent will work in conjunction with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in the investigation and prosecution of state and federal offenses.
Prosecutions will primarily focus on violent crime and firearm offenses and may include drug trafficking, sex-trafficking, and money-laundering.
The position requires the ability to analyze and provide concise, appropriate, practical and accurate advice on legal issues.
The position handles other assignments as needed.
Additionally, the position is responsible for assisting in the review and drafting of official advisory opinions of the Attorney General and reviewing legislation during sessions of the Virginia General Assembly.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be a United States citizen, have graduated from an accredited law school, and be admitted to the Virginia State Bar or be eligible for admission.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and good judgment are required as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to analyze and manage complex cases.
Additional Considerations
It is preferred that the ideal candidate for this position have a minimum of five years of relevant experience, including prosecutorial experience in Virginia and/or in federal courts.
