gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Virginia Department of Health Professions (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.
The Administrative Assistant for the Board of Medicine acts as administrative support for the Deputy Executive Director, Discipline Unit, Executive Director, and Operations Manager by handling routine telephone and written inquiries; creating management reports and maintaining Discipline Unit files.
Further, this position reports Board actions and licensure data to national professional federations, obtains and analyzes other state board orders regarding Virginia licensees to determine appropriate action by Board.
Additionally, this position responds to requests for information pursuant to Virginia Freedom of Information Act and to subpoena and requests for confidential information from other licensing boards or law enforcement agencies pursuant to Board's confidentiality statute and routinely reviews notifications of criminal convictions to determine if new information for Board.

Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workflow to complete duties within established timeframes.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing, particularly to analyze correspondence and compose appropriate written response.
Demonstrated skill in analyzing work practices and procedures and recommend effective improvements.
Demonstrated analytical ability to apply law or regulation to legal documents and make valid recommendations.
Knowledge of confidentiality principles and provisions of Virginia Freedom of Information Act Demonstrated skill in word processing as well as other Microsoft based application, such as Excel and Access Demonstrated skill in data processing.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures Effective public contact skills and ability to communicate effectively orally Additional Considerations Experience as an administrative assistant in a regulatory or legal environment.
Experience in handling and maintaining confidentiality of documents and information Experience or additional training in word processing in a Windows environment with WORD and data entry.
Experience in handling multiple responsibilities in a demanding environment and meeting frequent deadlines.
