Job Duties
Virginia DMV’s Tax Services Administration is hiring for a Tax Examiner Senior to review, analyze, and process various types of fuels tax refund application and supporting documents to ensure application eligibility to pre-approve, reduce, or deny refunds in accordance with policies and procedures and the Code of Virginia.
Responsibilities Include
• Updating and verifying the tax refund system to ensure correct amounts are being refunded
• Ensuring document management procedures are followed and records are securely shredded per the retention schedule
• Compiling various statistics and reports as necessary to support Tax Services and other agency functions
• Providing assistance and training to other tax examiners in the work center

Minimum Qualifications
• Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and spreadsheet applications
• Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical concepts to calculate and verify tax computations
• Experience communicating both orally and in writing
• Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards and procedures of Virginia regulations
• Experience using a computer for word processing and data entry
• Experience establishing effective working relationships with colleagues and the public as well as working independently
Additional Considerations
• Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying standards and procedures of the Virginia Fuels Tax Act
